As part of a collaboration between the Royal Northern College of Music and Future Stages, this production partnered the RNCM young company with professional actors. As director of the young company, I rehearsed and prepared them to meet this professional standard.  

University of Central Lancashire Residencies

Watertight (2014), Assistant Director From 2014 -2017 I was a visiting and resident director of musical theatre and puppetry at the University of Central Lancashire. This work introduced me to long-term creative partner, Roger Haines.

The Go Between, Apollo Theatre West End, Associate and Resident Director  (2016)
As Roger Haines’ associate I helped direct the West End debut of this musical including running full company and understudy rehearsals, noting the company directly on five shows a week and working alongside Bill Kenwright’s senior management.

The Girls, Leeds Grand & Lowry SalfordAssistant and Resident Director (2015)

A new musical adaptation of the Calendar Girls story, by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth. Assisting rehearsals in London, I then creatively managed the piece during its four-month northern run of previews before it transferred to The Phoenix Theatre, London.

As part of an evening of scratch performances at Norwich’s Garage, I directed the first installment of an hour-long play entitled, The Soup, a radio play for theatre which also featured my own masks.

Deviser and Performer, Moon On A Stick Productions,  (2017 - 2018)

Devised and toured two shows, The Abominable Snowman and Little Red Riding Hood to theatres across the UK including Nottingham Playhouse, Blue Elephant, Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, Norwich Theatre Royal. We are currently researching and developing a new piece for adult audiences. ‘Sticky Tape’ which looks at grief through the eyes of a puppet.

EMBOLON Theatre, Camden People’s Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre Performer/Deviser (2016)
A small cooperative of actors and writers. Our residency at Camden People’s Theatre culminated in the performance of Look Away. We performed our second show, ‘All In’ at The Brighton Fringe in 2017.

At Cambridge University I wrote and performed as part of the Footlights. My cohort has continued to collaborate, producing and performing original plays at venues such as Etcetera Theatre and Battersea Arts Centre.

JB Shorts, Assistant Director/Performer (2014)

JB Shorts is one of Manchester’s most exciting theatrical events. Biannually, television and radio writers challenge themselves to write for the stage. I performed in and was assistant director for Peter Kerry’s Icarus Descending.

Esio Trot Actor/Deviser

(2013)

Directed by Emily Burns, performed the Edinburgh Fringe’s Assembly Rooms. Receiving rave reviews from The Times, Broadway Baby and The List. The show was then performed for the BBC.

Into The Somewhere - (2017-2018 ) Writer, Performer and Puppet Maker

Supported by Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, and in collaboration with Rojo Arts, I am developing and piloting an immersive and interactive theatrical experience for primary school children. The piece will be officially launched during the Theatre Royal’s Once Upon A Festival, later this year.

Puppetry in prisons

I have designed and delivered an Arts Award certified course in puppetry with young offenders in prison. The course uses Bunraku puppetry to explore emotions and behaviours ‘once removed’.

 

FACILITATOR & PROJECT MANAGER

Bread and Jam - Commissioned by Enfield Museum as part of Enfield to Fork. 2021. A day of music, making and bread breaking.

Raree Tales Project - on behalf of 1927 and The Margate Now Festival. Working with every year five pupil in Margate State schools to re-invent and animate old folk stories. Launched as part of the Turner Prize Announcement.

ODD Arts

Facilitator, theatre maker and project manager for ODD Arts (winner of The 2014 Spirit of Manchester Award for ‘Most innovative group’). I have managed and delivered over 50 diverse projects for ODD, in schools, prisons (HMP Manchester, Barton Moss Secure Centre, HMP Hindley, Lincolnshire Secure Centre) and for organizations from the Brit Awards to the NHS, honing my theatre making, workshop designing and skills as an educator. I have acted, devised and facilitated in over 100 forum theatre performances.

Other

Designed and delivered lyric workshops for Drive Forward Foundation, combating young homelessness, delivered workshops for The Good Lad Initiative and many other educational charities.
